4K Summer School

All children who will be entering 5-Year-Old Kindergarten in fall of 2017 and did not attend the MMSD 4K Program, or who received a recommendation from their 4K teacher, are invited to attend the MMSD 4K Summer School Program. The program provides children with rich learning opportunities to prepare them for 5K. They will learn how to interact with peers in a positive manner, engage in pre-literacy and math activities, and gain a foundational school experience. The daily schedule includes community building, small group instruction, child-guided exploration and outdoor activities. This program is from 8:00 a.m.-12:15 p.m., Monday through Friday.

Students may also enroll in the afternoon 4K program at their summer school site. The program runs from 12:15-4:00 p.m., and includes lunch, rest time, afternoon snack and a variety of recreation and enrichment activities (outdoor and large group games, science, art, music and more). Please select that you would like your child to attend for the full day (from 8:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m.) during online enrollment if you would like to attend this program.

You can find some more information about this program here.

Summer school (Grades K-7)

The Summer School program provides students in kindergarten through 8th grade the opportunity to receive additional academic support and build upon their math and literacy skills during the summer. Students who attend this program have received an invitation to attend; the invitation is based upon students' academic performance during the regular school year. The program runs 8:00 a.m.-12:15 p.m. and is divided into three periods of approximately 80 minutes each. During this time, students receive instruction in either math, literacy or both, and an enrichment course.

Students may also enroll in the Summer Recreation & Enrichment Center (SREC) program through MSCR at their summer school site. This program runs from 12:15-4:00 p.m., and includes lunch, afternoon snack and a variety of recreation and enrichment activities (outdoor and large group games, science, art, music and more). Please select that you would like your child to attend for the full day (from 8:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m.) during online enrollment if you would like to attend this program.

4th and 8th Grade Summer School Promotion

The 4th and 8th Grade Promotion component of summer school is based on state law and MMSD policy. Students who are at risk of non-promotion to 5th or 9th grade can attend summer school to increase academic skills in order to be promoted to the next instructional level. The courses give students the opportunity for additional study on the subject content areas that require the additional work in order to be promoted to the next grade level.

If your child is at risk for non-promotion, you should have received a letter from your school regarding this process. Please contact your school counselor if you have any questions.
